• The PCE PTA is involved in many additional activities outside of fundraising, communications and events. Some of these activities are set forth below:

    County Council of PTAs

A PTA board member attends County Council of PTA meetings throughout the school year, informing PCE parents of issues being considered on the county level, and, in turn giving feedback reflecting the views of the PCE PTA to the County Council.

    Community Outreach
Volunteers are needed to help plan and coordinate community service projects, both school wide and in the classroom.

Enrichment classes for after school and on some evenings are offered to PCE students in the fall and in the spring. Registration information is sent home throughout the year. Volunteers are needed throughout the year to share their talents or interests by teaching a class or to be a coordinator for the arts, science, sports and language arts or to be a volunteer in the classes.

The PTA hosts the Welcome Back Luncheon for PCE Staff at the beginning of the school year. Throughout the school year, the PTA also provides refreshments for various PTA events, County Council of PTA functions, PCE school functions and other events. The PTA also hosts the annual Volunteer, Business and Community Partners Appreciation Luncheon. Volunteers are needed to provide refreshments, serve, set up and/or clean up at events.

This is a national PTA sponsored contest that is open to all students. Entries are accepted October to early November. The Reflections program encourages children to creatively reflect on a given theme through the use of various media (Literature, Music, Photography, Dance/Choreography, Film/Video, and Visual Arts). The theme for 2007-08 is “I can make a difference by …” All students are encouraged to participate. Top finishers are submitted to the Martin County Reflections contest. Entries are due in sometime in October/November 2007 (check the newsletter for exact date). Volunteers are needed to coordinate and promote the contest in the fall.

Each fall, the PTA sells t-shirts and other spirit items, such as visors, with PCE’s name imprinted thereon. These t-shirts are a great way to show school spirit and to make students easily identifiable while on school field trips. Volunteers are needed on Open House and Curriculum nights to help sell the t-shirts and other items.

    Teacher and Staff Appreciation
The PTA shows its appreciation for the PCE staff throughout the year by hosting a Welcome Back Lunch, providing dinner for staff on parent-teacher conference nights, coordinating Festive Fridays six times during the year where each grade level hosts lunch for the staff, and by recognizing Secretaries Week and Teacher Appreciation Week. Volunteers are needed to provide food items, serve, clean and/or set up at these events.

Volunteers are an integral part of the school and the PTA. The Volunteer Coordinator compiles a database of volunteers and passes that information along to the relevant volunteer heads, teachers and staff members. Volunteers are needed to help compile lists of volunteers for distribution to Volunteer Heads, help process forms at volunteer orientations and to assist the Volunteer Coordinator in other areas.

The PTA oversees the production, sale and distribution of the school yearbook. Volunteers are needed to take photos, organize pages, design pages, coordinate coverage at events, organize photos, write copy, prepare sale database and distribute the yearbook in the spring.
