7 Martin County Students Named National Merit Scholarship Finalists

Seven Martin County students have been names finalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.

More than 1.6 million juniors in approximately 22,000 high schools throughout the nation entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Approximately 16,000 students were selected as semifinalists in this year's competition.

Around 15,000 semifinalists were given notice by mail that they have advanced and were named finalists. High School Principals were also notified and a certificate will be given to each finalist at their respective schools.

Finalists from the Martin County School District have earned the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.
