The Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Program at Martin County High School began in 1993. We’ve built on our early success to evolve into an award-winning unit. We have been awarded (6) Distinguished Unit Awards, (1) Distinguished Unit Award with Merit, (1) Outstanding Organization Award and (1) Meritorious Unit Award.

Some of the extracurricular programs we offer include Aviation Club, Color Guard, Drill Team, Kitty Hawk Air Society, Model Rocket building, Flag Football/Volleyball teams, Planning Committees, Flag Detail, Green Team, and the JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB) team. In an effort to enhance the cadet’s experience in the program, we plan Curriculum In Action (CIA) field trips throughout the year to aviation-related locations such as NASA, Patrick Space Force Base, and local airports. We also volunteer at a variety of events including the Stuart Air Show, Martin County Parks and Recreation, and participate in parades. One of our biggest events occurs in the Spring when cadets enjoy a formal evening of dining and dancing at the Military Ball. We end the year with our annual awards night and change of command ceremony in April.

We want to assure you that we are not here to recruit your son/daughter into any of the Nation’s Armed Forces. In fact, most students do NOT join the military but instead take the life skills we teach to college or other career programs. We are a citizenship and community service organization; and we stand ready to help prepare your son/daughter for life beyond Martin County High School. The coursework during the four years of JROTC includes such topics as science of flight, management, communication, and leadership. The commitment we ask of each cadet in addition to their normal academic coursework is to wear the uniform once a week on prescribed days (usually Wednesdays) and maintain the high personal appearance standards while wearing the uniform, including the Physical Fitness uniform (usually Fridays).
