PBIS

Our teachers and staff are committed to creating a school environment that not only supports academic learning but also promotes students’ personal and social development. At Willoughby Learning Center we use Positive Behavior Support (PBS) as a tool for teaching students’ appropriate behavior at school. Within this framework, teachers and staff use a system of rewards and consequences to manage student behavior. To encourage appropriate behavior and recognize students that demonstrate SOAR qualities, students are rewarded using school-wide, classroom, and individual incentives. On the contrary, teachers and staff may implement a variety of consequences such as time-out, reflective assignments, or loss of privileges to discourage inappropriate behavior.

To help students remember our universal guidelines, we use the acronym SOAR which stands for Safe, On Task, Assigned Area, and Respectful . This behavior is encouraged daily by teachers and staff in all school settings.

Willoughby Learning Center is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) school.  We strive to reinforce the positive behaviors that our students model every day.  Our school-wide expectations are to SOAR

SAFE

On Task

Assigned Area

Respectful

The faculty and staff have demonstrated and continue to demonstrate these expectations to the students to help them make the right choices.  When your child makes the right choice, they are often rewarded with Points via there point sheet. Students are awarded  points when they are seen exhibiting SOAR behavior.

The Duck Store

At Willoughby Learning Center, students have the opportunity to earn access to the Duck Store every Friday based on their positive behavior and demonstration of our SOAR expectations — Safe, On Task, Assigned Area, and Respectful.

The Duck Store is one of our most exciting incentives! Students can redeem their earned “Duck Bucks” for a variety of fun rewards, including snacks, games, accessories, electronics, and more. It’s a fun and meaningful way to recognize great choices, responsibility, and positive behavior throughout the week.

At WLC, we believe in celebrating success and encouraging our students to keep SOARing to success!
