Project SEARCH graduation ceremony

Six Martin County School District exceptional education students are ready for their new careers after graduating from the Project SEARCH program on May 23, 2023.

Project SEARCH is a one-year, High School Transition Program for students with disabilities who are 18-21 and have deferred or are deferring receipt of their standard diploma and meet eligibility for Vocational Rehabilitation's Supported Employment Program. This one-year program prepares these students for competitive employment in the community by immersing them in an all-day work setting.

This year, the interns spent most of their time at Cleveland Clinic, which graciously hosted the students as they worked on their employability skills.

All six students found a job through the program. One student was awarded a scholarship to continue his schooling at Indian River State College, where he wants to study welding. The scholarship was made possible through a donation from Erica Garwood, a parent of a former Project SEARCH graduate.
