Transportation staff celebrated during luncheon

Prior to the end of the school year, the Martin County School District partnered with Matthews Bus Alliance to organize a luncheon as a tribute to their exceptional school bus operators, assistants, and mechanics.

The jobs of our transportation team are vital to student success.

"Everything is about student achievement," Superintendent Michael Maine said. "So, you are the first piece of that student achievement at the end of the day, because if they’re not getting to school on time, and they’re not at school, then our teachers can’t do what they need to do to make sure the student get the rest of the way.”

Tom Hardin, Director of Transportation for the District, finds numerous ways to show appreciation for his staff. At the luncheon, he surprised the employees who never missed a shift, showed exceptional dedication, or were retiring after years of hard work to ensure students' safety on the road with gifts.

District leadership, including School Board members, showed their support of the transportation staff by attending the event, and by striving to provide salaries that are unparalleled to other districts. Martin County Bus Operators are paid a minimum of $20 an hour to start.
