Superintendent Michael Maine will recommend Ms. Elizabeth Atkinson for appointment as the new principal of Bessey Creek Elementary School during an upcoming meeting of the Martin County School Board.

Ms. Atkinson currently serves as the assistant principal of Palm City Elementary School, where she has helped lead schoolwide improvement planning, staff development, and student achievement efforts. With over 18 years of experience in education, she brings a deep understanding of effective instruction, inclusive practices, and community engagement to her new leadership role.

A dedicated member of the Martin County School District, Ms. Atkinson has taught at both Palm City Elementary School and Warfield Elementary School, serving students across grades 1–4 and in the science lab. She has also worked in the Clarke County School District in Georgia. Throughout her career, she has led curriculum development initiatives, mentored new teachers, and championed enrichment programs focused on literacy and STEM.

Ms. Atkinson holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Florida State University, a master’s degree in reading education from the University of Georgia, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of West Florida. She also holds endorsements in reading, ESOL, and youth mental health.

Known for her strategic thinking, positive leadership style, and strong communication skills, Ms. Atkinson is committed to fostering a learning environment where all students, staff, and families thrive.
