As part of CBS12 News’ ongoing Teacher Feature series celebrating exceptional educators across the Treasure Coast, several Martin County School District teachers have been recognized for their outstanding contributions. Among them is Elaine Sanchez, STEM Lab teacher at Crystal Lake Elementary School, who is being honored for her innovative and engaging approach to teaching.
Sanchez has served the students of Crystal Lake Elementary since 2005, creating a STEM program that brings science, technology, engineering, and math to life through hands-on learning. Her dynamic instructional style transforms traditional lessons into interactive experiences that spark curiosity and deepen understanding.
One of her most impactful initiatives is the development of the school’s outdoor learning garden, where students explore scientific concepts in a real-world setting. Through planting and observing life cycles, children gain a deeper appreciation of how things grow and change, lessons that are more impactful when seen and experienced firsthand.
Sanchez’s curriculum includes a variety of engaging activities such as force-and-motion experiments, catapult construction, slime-making, and the maintenance of both butterfly and vegetable gardens. Her projects are designed to be fun, memorable, and tailored to students in grades one through five, ensuring age-appropriate learning that aligns with academic standards.
Beyond the classroom, Sanchez also leads the school’s science fair program for students in grades three through five. This initiative gives students the opportunity to apply the scientific method, conduct research, and present their findings. The program encourages both academic rigor and family involvement, helping to reinforce concepts at home.
Committed to providing students with meaningful learning experiences, Sanchez actively seeks out funding to support her initiatives. She has successfully secured more than $4,000 in grant funding and received donations from local businesses to bring her projects to life.
With two decades of service to Crystal Lake Elementary, Sanchez continues to bring energy, creativity, and passion to her role as a STEM educator. She remains dedicated to helping students discover the joy of learning and the power of scientific exploration.
The Martin County School District congratulates Elaine Sanchez on being featured for her outstanding work and thanks her for her continued service to students and families.
