An official transcript must be mailed to the FLDOE, unless sent electronically through FASTER or SPEEDE. Allow the FLDOE 30 days to process your transcript from the time they receive it.

Requirements for Temp to Pro Certificate

If you received a Statement of Eligibility and are eligible for a Temporary certificate, you must be hired to teach in a Florida School District or Charter School. Once hired, the district will request that the FLDOE issue your Temporary certificate. It will be backdated to July 1st of that fiscal year and it will expire on June 30th five years later.

Complete College Courses for Temp to Pro and sign up for Certification Exams. Unless you enroll in an EPI program through a university, you will be enrolled in the district's Professional Education Competency (PEC) program.

When you have completed all requirements, send an official transcript to the FLDOE and login to your FLDOE account to complete the Upgrade application and pay the fee.

College Courses for Temp to Pro

Adding a subject

Pass a Certification Exam to add a subject to your certificate. Use exam prep websites to help you prepare to take the exam:

  • Teachers with a Professional Certificate should complete the application called District Add Subject through their FLDOE account and pay the $75 to the district. Ensure the FLDOE has posted your exam score on your account before paying the fee.

  • Teachers with a Temporary Certificate should complete the application called Addition of Subject through their FLDOE account and pay the $75 to the DOE. Once the subject is added, scan a copy of the updated certificate to the Human Resources Department.

  • Exception: If you pass the Reading K-12 exam, complete the application called District Add Endorsement.

All graduate level subject areas, i.e. Educational Leadership or School Counseling must be processed by the FLDOE and payment submitted directly to them.

Adding an endorsement

To add one of the following endorsements to your certificate, complete the requirements, submit the application called District Add Endorsement through your FLDOE account and pay the $75 to the district.

  • ESOL courses may be taken for free through Literacy Solutions.

    • Methods of Instruction for ELLS

    • Testing and Evaluation for ELLS

    • Applied Linguistics

    • Cross Cultural Communications

    • Curriculum and Materials

  • Reading courses may be taken for free through Literacy Solutions.

    • Foundations of Reading Instruction

    • Research- Based Literacy Strategy for All Content Areas

    • Foundations of Reading Assessment for Teachers and Principals

    • Differentiating Instruction and Assessment

    • Demonstration of Accomplished Practices

  • Gifted courses may be taken for free through FDLRS-BEESS Portal. Emails are sent to instructional staff to let them know when a course is being offered so they can register for it. Preference is given to teachers who are out of field for the gifted endorsement.

    • Nature and Needs of Students who are Gifted

    • Theory and Development of Creativity

    • Guidance and Counseling for Gifted

    • Special Populations of Gifted

    • Curriculum Development for Gifted

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder courses may be taken for free through FDLRS-BEESS Portal (limited offerings). ASD courses may also be taken through a university. The ASD endorsement is for teachers who have an ESE subject area on their certificate.

    • Nature, Needs, Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders

    • Augmentative/Alternative Communication Systems and Assistive/Instructional Technology for Students with ASD

    • Applied Behavioral Analysis and Positive Behavior Supports for Students with ASD

  • Once a course is completed, add it into Frontline as out of district in-service credit.
