What are Building Thinking Classrooms?
Our classrooms use an approach called Building Thinking Classrooms, based on over 15 years of research in K–12 schools. The work behind this approach involved more than 400 teachers and thousands of students across many grade levels and school settings.
Research shows that when students regularly work on meaningful problems, explain their thinking, and collaborate with different classmates, more students stay engaged and think for longer periods of time. This approach was developed after observing 40 classrooms in 40 different schools, where traditional methods often led to students copying steps instead of truly understanding the math.
Building Thinking Classrooms focuses on 14 research‑based teaching practices that help students:
Build deeper understanding (not just memorize steps)
Gain confidence in math
Learn how to problem‑solve, communicate, and persevere
Our goal is to help every student become a strong mathematical thinker, prepared for learning in school and beyond.
