The Martin County School District is proud to share that Cathy Uzar, Food and Nutrition Services Manager at Palm City Elementary School, was named a Florida “School Lunch Hero” by the Florida Division of Food, Nutrition and Wellness, in partnership with the Florida Dairy Council and No Kid Hungry.
Ms. Uzar is one of just five school nutrition professionals across the state to earn this recognition. The award honors those who go above and beyond in serving healthy meals and creating a welcoming cafeteria environment for students.
Representatives from the three organizations surprised Ms. Uzar during lunch service with a red carpet celebration, gifts, and a $2,000 check. District leaders, school leaders, students, and family members were able to cheer Ms. Uzar on as she was awarded the title and given a special superhero cape.
In addition to managing daily meal service, Ms. Uzar works with students to maintain campus gardens and the district’s only food forest, where students grow produce used in meals and nutrition lessons.
Congratulations, Ms. Uzar, our School Lunch Hero!
