While students are enjoying summer break, many educators within the Martin County School District are spending part of their summer learning new skills of their own.
From June 1 - June 5, teachers and staff from across the district gathered for the Summer Learning Summit, participating in professional development sessions focused on technology, leadership, instructional strategies and collaboration.
Among those attending was Julia Garcia, Prevention Intervention Program Specialist at Palm City Elementary School. Garcia participated in multiple learning opportunities throughout the week, including the keynote session focused on Canva.
Garcia said the training introduced new tools and ideas she can use to support both teachers and students.
“Lots of different ways for the students to be creative, lots of different ways to get the information out to the teachers in a fun way,” Garcia said.
She added that the professional learning opportunities offered through the district provide practical skills educators can immediately apply in their daily work.
“It’s nice when the district provides that because it kind of just makes me feel like they’re investing in me and my education,” she explained.
In addition to learning new technology and instructional tools, one of the most valuable aspects of the summit is the opportunity to learn from fellow MCSD educators who understand the unique needs of local classrooms.
District leaders said the Summer Learning Summit is designed to help educators strengthen their skills, collaborate with colleagues and return to campus prepared to provide the best possible learning experiences for students in the coming school year.
