School Lunch Fairy pays student lunch debt

Students with lunch debt will be able to start the new year on a clean slate.

Thanks to the School Lunch Fairy, a 501(c)(3) charity organization founded by two students in Wellington, FL, the school lunch debt in the Martin County School District is being wiped out!

The non-profit is donating $5,000 to eliminate the balance of students’ unpaid lunch charges, just in time for the holiday season.

"With this $5,000 donation from the School Lunch Fairy, it takes a big bite out of the goal to eliminate student hunger," the Director of Food and Nutrition Services Laura Holmedal shared.

School meal programs play an important role in overall students' health and academic achievement, and research shows children are often getting their healthiest meals while at school.

The District never turns students away from receiving a meal due to the inability to pay. Students without funds to pay for lunch are still given a proper, nutritious meal.
