MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS

The Martin County School District hosted its 47th annual Music in Our Schools program on Thursday, March 23, 2023.

The event, held in the Martin County High School gymnasium, featured performances by elementary, middle, and high school music students.

The District’s 12 elementary schools performed as one choir during the event, while the bands and choruses from each middle and high school performed individual selections.

"We value music education because it touches us more than just an emotional level," Superintendent Dr. John D. Millay said. "History, math, physical education, science and world languages all have a part in Martin County's well-rounded music program."

Retired school administrator and music educator Joseph Flanagan served as the event’s master of ceremonies.  He has been involved with Music in Our Schools since 1988 when he was the band director at South Fork High School.

The program coincided with the National Association for Music Education’s (NAfME) Music In Our Schools Month. This year’s NAfME’s theme is “Music is in All Of Us." To learn more about the National Association for Music Education’s Music In Our Schools Month®, please click here.
