alcira gonzalez

Superintendent Michael Maine will recommend Alcira Gonzalez as the new Assistant Principal of Port Salerno Elementary School during the July meeting of the Martin County School Board.

A dedicated bilingual educator with over two decades of experience in teaching and leadership, Ms. Gonzalez brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of improving student outcomes. Her educational philosophy centers on building strong relationships with students, families, and staff to ensure every child receives the support and resources needed to thrive.

Ms. Gonzalez most recently served as a District Prevention/Intervention Program Specialist, providing support to schools across the Martin County School District. In this role, she developed and led districtwide initiatives aimed at improving attendance, supporting multilingual learners, and increasing family engagement. She also served as an Administrator on Assignment at Port Salerno Elementary, Warfield Elementary, and Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School, where she helped guide academic improvement efforts, oversee school operations, and support positive behavior systems.

As a school-based Prevention/Intervention Specialist at Port Salerno Elementary from 2021–2024, Ms. Gonzalez implemented targeted strategies to improve ELL performance, leading to a 22-percentage-point increase in ELL subgroup proficiency. She also collected and analyzed FAST data, with results showing significant gains among 3rd and 5th grade students.

Her leadership extends beyond instruction. She played a key role in creating the districtwide “Breakfast Club” support program for non-English speaking students and families—a model now replicated throughout the district. She also managed the District Parent Resource Centers and facilitated workshops aligned with Florida’s family engagement standards.

Ms. Gonzalez holds a master's degree in administration and supervision from Liberty University and a bachelor's degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages from Hobe Sound Bible College. She is certified in Educational Leadership and ESOL (K–12) and is a two-time participant in the District’s Aspiring Leaders Academy.

Please join us in congratulating Alcira Gonzalez on her new role as Assistant Principal of Port Salerno Elementary School!
