Brightline to test 110 mph speeds

Starting Oct. 17, Brightline will begin testing trains at their maximum speeds of 110 mph in Martin County.

Martin County School District families and the community should be alert and follow the law around active railroad tracks and crossings. The first phase of testing is expected to take place over a six-week period and along tracks, including at the following railroad crossings in Martin County:

-County Line Rd.
-Skyline Dr. (CR 722)
-Pitchford Landing
-Jensen Beach Blvd. (SR 707A)
-Palmetto Ave.

During the testing period, flaggers will be present at all crossings listed above. Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists should be aware that rail traffic will run BOTH tracks in BOTH directions.

Keeping the Martin County School District community safe is a top priority. District school buses stop at every railroad crossing whether a train is approaching or not. However, safety is a team effort and the District hopes everyone comes aboard for safety and stays off the train tracks.
