CTE teachers at South Fork High School

South Fork High School's Career and Technical Education programs earned 619 state reportable certifications this year, plus many more that were non-reportable by state guidelines! This accomplishment earns College and Career Acceleration for SFHS, which is tied to the school grade, school funding and so much more for making our students career and college ready.

The following is a breakdown of certifications earned through each program:

  •  Automotive Maintenance, Mr. Sean Gregory:  273 certifications in Automotive Service were earned with 69 students passing multiple tests. Three students passed all 10 Automotive Service Excellence tests just this year! In addition, 10 students are Florida Automotive Dealer Certified Technicians, allowing them to go straight to work at any auto dealership in Florida.


  •  Agriculture and Landscape, Ms. Wendy Schepman and Mr. Derrick Crum: 79 total certifications were earned. Fifty-seven students earned their Agriculture Associates, allowing them entry-level positions in the agricultural industry. Twenty-two students earned Certified Horticulture Professionals, passing a comprehensive eight-part exam to demonstrate knowledge about plant identification, disease and insect control, plant biology and landscape management. Passing these certifications qualify for a math or science substitution credit.


  • Digital Video, Ms. Karen Kane: 68 students passed their Entrepreneurship and Small Business Certification, setting them up to build a small business or freelance with their video production skills. Passing the Entrepreneurship and Small Business certification qualifies for a math or science substitution credit.


  • Communication Technology, Ms. Laura Hubel: 54 students passed at least one certification in either Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. Twenty-four of those students earned both, making them Adobe Certified Visual Designers. Fourteen yearbook students earned their Entrepreneurship and Small Business Certification while also planning/creating/marketing/selling the South Fork High School yearbook. This is only the second year of the program. The Adobe Visual Designer certification qualifies for a math or science substitution credit. Passing the Entrepreneurship and Small Business certification qualifies for a math or science substitution credit.


  • Building and Construction, Mr. Stanley Blount: 43 students and Mr. Blount earned their core certification from the Home Builders Institute. This was a brand-new test offered this school year by a new teacher.


  • Veterinary Assisting, Ms. Stacy Reddish and Ms. Katie Onus: 28 students passed their Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) exam, allowing them to obtain employment at any veterinarian office. The CVA exam qualifies for a math or science substitution credit.


  • Medical, Ms. Jeannine Ramos and Ms. Autumn Bros: 25 students earned their Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) licenses, allowing them to provide medical care in nursing homes or other medical facilities. 

  • HVAC, Mr. Mike Mehal: 6 senior students will be sitting for their Environmental Protection Agency Section 608 Technical Certification exam (non-reportable), allowing them to work with the chemicals needed for AC and heating repair. This was only the second year of the program.


  • Principles of Entrepreneurship, Mr. Nick Wood and Mr. Juan Ocampo: 55 students earned their Entrepreneurship and Small Business Certification in this rapid certification course. Mr. Wood retired in December and Mr. Ocampo stepped in as a new teacher in January. Passing the Entrepreneurship and Small Business certification qualifies for a math or science substitution credit.
