Robotics Immersion Program

The Martin County School District will introduce a new, immersive learning experience at all elementary and middle schools in the second semester of the 2021-2022 school year.  On October 19, 2021, the Martin County School Board approved the implementation of  LEGO Education Robotics programs in grades 4, 6, 7 and 8.  These programs, which will be introduced to students beginning in February 2022,  have been designed to engage students in the hands-on investigation of  Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) concepts using everyday themes. In addition to learning computer science and design engineering concepts, students enrolled in the programs also develop their literacy, math and social-emotional skills as they turn concepts into reality.

All students enrolled in fourth grade will participate in a robotics experience focused on computer science, computational thinking and 21st-century skills.   The program will allow all elementary students to have experience with robotics before middle school, supporting student interest and fostering the potential growth of programs at the secondary level. Students enrolled in grades 6-8 will have the opportunity to enroll in a semester-long robotics elective that will also highlight the same subject areas and skills with an emphasis on mathematics applications.

"As part of our school district's mission of educating all students for success, we must continue to look for opportunities to expose students to STEAM-related concepts," Superintendent John D. Millay shared. "Through our district's involvement in the FIRST Robotics Competition, our nationally-renowned FRC Team 180 S.P.A.M., and many other local clubs, we know that experiences afforded to students through their participation in robotics programs are invaluable.  We are excited about the opportunity students throughout the Martin County School District will have to build their leadership and critical thinking skills while also exploring subject areas associated with our global economy and workforce."
