schools closed november 3

The Martin County School District will close all schools on Tuesday, Nov. 3, due to the ongoing impacts of severe weather across Martin County and surrounding communities.

Conditions have varied considerably across the region, with some communities experiencing significant flooding and difficult travel conditions.

Many MCSD employees and families live outside Martin County and commute into the county each day. The conditions affecting those surrounding communities were an important factor in the District’s decision. As conditions progressed throughout the day, the District received numerous reports of employees and families navigating floodwaters to get home, leaving vehicles behind and waiting for a ride because of impassable roadways, and making alternate arrangements for overnight accommodations because they can’t safely stay in their own homes.

The District considered employees’ ability to safely travel to and from campuses, as well as whether schools would have the staffing and resources necessary to safely support students throughout the school day.

The decision also follows Governor Ron DeSantis’ declaration of a state of emergency for Martin County and surrounding counties.

All MCSD-operated schools will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 3, including all after-school activities.

Our thoughts are with our families and employees experiencing the impacts of the severe weather, both within Martin County and in surrounding communities. We encourage everyone to use caution and prioritize their safety as conditions continue to affect our region.

We ask that families continue to monitor the District's social media and website for further updates.
