The Martin County School District will reopen schools and District offices on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
We know how important it is for our schools to be open for students and families when we can do so safely. We also know some of our families and employees are still dealing with very real impacts from this weather, including flooding at home and difficult travel conditions. Those circumstances don’t simply go away because our schools are reopening, and we want to provide flexibility for those who need it.
Students who are unable to attend school Wednesday because of weather-related conditions, or who need additional time to arrive safely, will have their absence or tardy excused with parent/guardian notification to their school.
Families using District bus transportation should expect delays on Wednesday, and families who are able to safely transport their children to and from school are encouraged to do so.
Extended Day will operate as scheduled on Wednesday. Outdoor after-school activities will remain canceled, while indoor activities may resume at the discretion of individual schools and coaches. Schools will communicate directly with families regarding any changes or cancellations. Activity buses will not operate Wednesday; families of students participating in indoor activities should plan accordingly for transportation.
We urge MCSD employees to communicate with their supervisors as soon as possible regarding their ability to report to work. This will assist school and District leaders in having a clearer understanding of staffing available to support students.
At this time, no decision has been made regarding a makeup day. We will provide as much advance notice as possible once a decision has been reached.
The District understands that reopening schools is an important step toward returning to normal routines for many families, while others in our community are still navigating very difficult circumstances. Our thoughts remain with those dealing with flooding and other significant impacts, and we encourage every family and employee to make decisions based on the conditions where they live and travel.
The safety and well-being of our students, staff and families remain our priority.
