At Port Salerno Elementary School, leaders and staff are passionate about creating an empowered community where students learn how to advocate for their education and take pride in their accomplishments.
Port Salerno Elementary is the very first AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) elementary school in the Martin County School District. AVID techniques, such as WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading), are incorporated into each student's education on a daily basis.
Port Salerno Elementary teachers work hard to plan engaging activities for their students to learn. In the classroom, that looks like a lot of collaboration and partner work or group work with students, where they’re asking each other questions and digging deeper into their understanding of the content.
