Project SEARCH intern earns Cleveland Clinic Recognition Coin

A Martin County School District Project SEARCH intern, Elias Diaz-Chavez, is the first-known recipient of the Cleveland Clinic recognition coin as a volunteer.

The recognition coin is typically given to caregivers in the Cleveland Clinic organization who have gone above and beyond to help a fellow caregiver or patient.

Elias was surprised with the recognition coin in December of 2023 for his hard work, the ability to spread joy and his great attitude.

Through the Project SEARCH program, Elias has been working at Cleveland Clinic as a volunteer. He greets patients and families and assists with clerical work, among other duties.

Project SEARCH is a transition program for students with disabilities that prepares them for competitive employment by immersing them in an all-day work setting. Student interns report to host businesses, such as Cleveland Clinic, and learn employability skills while participating in three internships/experiences during the year.
