Rachel Pennega recognized as MCSD's 2024 Sunshine State Scholar

On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the Martin County School Board recognized South Fork High School junior Rachel Pennega for her selection as the Martin County School District's representative in the 2024 Sunshine State Scholars program. Jensen Beach High School junior Kara LaFleur was selected as the alternate for this year's program.

Each year, Florida school districts select their top 11th-grade students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) to participate in the Sunshine State Scholars program.  Each school district's chosen scholar, along with their parents, is given the opportunity to participate in an extraordinary event designed to connect them with employers that specialize in the STEM fields and create a networking opportunity between themselves and schools from Florida’s College and State University System. The two-day program honors each scholar for their significant academic accomplishments and celebrates the potential they represent for their communities and our state.

Rachel and her family will participate in the 2024 Sunshine State Scholars program, which will be held May 2 – May 3, 2024, in Orlando, Florida.
