Lauren Gifford named Executive Director of School Leadership and Improvement

The Martin County School District is thrilled to announce the promotion of Lauren Gifford to the role of Executive Director of School Improvement and Leadership.

A dynamic, visionary educator with nearly three decades of experience, Ms. Gifford has consistently driven academic success and cultivated thriving school cultures throughout her career. Her relentless focus on student achievement, instructional excellence, and community engagement has earned her state and national recognition, including being named the Martin County School District Principal of the Year in 2023.

As Principal of Port Salerno Elementary School, Ms. Gifford led the campus to unprecedented growth and recognition. Under her leadership, the school became Martin County’s first AVID National Showcase School, launched groundbreaking literacy and STEM initiatives, and implemented innovative programs supporting both students and families. Port Salerno Elementary also increased its school grade from a “D” to a “B” in just two years under Ms. Gifford’s leadership. Ms. Gifford also spearheaded the creation of the district’s inaugural Black History Month community event and forged meaningful partnerships with numerous organizations to expand services and opportunities for children. 

Ms. Gifford brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as a teacher, literacy coach, assistant principal, and principal. Her approach to leadership is rooted in strategic planning, actionable feedback, and the empowerment of educators. She has a proven record of mentoring new administrators, leading professional learning, and designing systems that foster continuous improvement.

A graduate of the University of Florida and American College of Education, Ms. Gifford holds multiple advanced degrees in education and leadership. Her résumé also includes national speaking engagements, statewide training presentations, and service as a thought leader on panels for the Florida Department of Education and the Model Schools Conference.

As Executive Director of School Improvement and Leadership, Ms. Gifford will support all schools in implementing high-impact strategies that improve student outcomes and strengthen leadership practices districtwide.
