MCEA agreement

The Martin County School District (MCSD) and the Martin County Education Association (MCEA) have reached a tentative agreement on salaries for the 2025-2026 school year following their second bargaining session focused on compensation. If ratified by MCEA and approved by the School Board, this agreement would close the competitive gaps in the placement schedule for experienced teachers, as of October 1, 2025, on the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee County.

Notably, the agreement was also tentatively reached ahead of similar negotiations in neighboring districts, including St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties.

This item will be placed on the October 7, 2025, Special Meeting for Board approval, followed by a ratification vote by the MCEA members. Only then will eligible bargaining-unit members begin to see the new compensation reflected in their pay.

Key components of the tentative salary package include:

  • Performance pay incentives in the following amounts:

  • Annual Contract: Highly Effective – $400 | Effective – $260

  • Professional Services Contract: Highly Effective – $260 | Effective – $130

  • $334,390 for Pay for Performance

  • $352,034 for competitive salary adjustments and across the increases

“This tentative agreement underscores our deep commitment to recognizing and supporting the educators who shape our students’ futures,” said Superintendent Michael Maine. “Competitive pay not only rewards the hard work of our teachers but also helps us attract and retain the very best talent. I’m grateful for the collaborative spirit that made this possible.”

A total of $998,746.64 will be utilized for salary increases and performance-based pay.

Negotiations between MCSD and MCEA will continue in the weeks ahead, with discussions primarily focused on the referendum millage distribution.
