The Martin County School District is proud to recognize Martin County High School teacher Chanda Leon, who was recently featured on CBS 12 News as part of their Teacher Feature series.

Ms. Leon, who was named the District’s 2025–2026 Overall Teacher of the Year, brings 28 years of experience in education, including 13 years at Martin County High School. She teaches ninth- and tenth-grade pre-AICE biology, where she focuses on helping students build confidence and develop the skills needed to succeed in rigorous coursework.

In the CBS 12 segment, Leon shared her passion for teaching students at the start of their high school journey—guiding them as they learn to navigate higher expectations and discover their ability to overcome challenges. Her approach goes beyond memorization, emphasizing real understanding and application. She encourages students to build a “tool belt” of knowledge they can carry with them throughout the course and beyond.

Leon’s impact is reflected not only in the classroom but in the success of her students, many of whom return to share their achievements and growth. After nearly three decades in education, she continues to evolve alongside her students, inspired by their curiosity and determination.
