Visually impaired students in the Martin County School District took part in a one‑of‑a‑kind Easter egg hunt designed to ensure every student could fully participate in the fun. Rather than relying on sight, students used sound to locate specially engineered beeping eggs hidden throughout the hunt area.
The sensory‑friendly event was intentionally designed to create an inclusive experience for students with visual impairments, allowing them to participate independently and confidently. The innovative beeping eggs provided audible cues, transforming a traditional Easter activity into an engaging experience for all participants.
The event was made possible through strong community partnerships. The Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast hosted the egg hunt; the Martin County Sheriff’s Office volunteered their time, supported students throughout the event, and provided meals; and the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad engineered the custom beeping eggs used during the hunt. Palm City Eye Care also contributed support to help bring the experience to life.
Creating meaningful, inclusive opportunities for students reflects the district’s continued commitment to accessibility, student engagement, and community collaboration.
