Ally the Alligator from the Treasure Coast Wildlife Center makes a visit to Port Salerno Elementary School

Students participating in Martin County School District’s Summer Acceleration Academy recently brought weeks of classroom learning to life during a special visit from the Treasure Coast Wildlife Center. The Summer Acceleration Academy serves students at Port Salerno Elementary and Warfield Elementary, with the featured video and photos captured during the visit to Port Salerno Elementary.

Offered in partnership with the Education Foundation of Martin County, the Summer Acceleration Academy supports rising third-grade students through engaging, high-quality instruction focused on building foundational literacy skills, vocabulary development, reading comprehension and background knowledge in science. Throughout the program, students collaborated with classmates, explored hands-on learning stations and applied new vocabulary before putting their knowledge into practice during the live wildlife presentation.

The visit gave students the opportunity to meet many of the Florida native species they had been studying, ask questions and make real-world connections to their learning. By combining meaningful classroom instruction with interactive experiences, the program helps students build confidence, strengthen academic skills and enter third grade ready to learn.

The Summer Acceleration Academy reflects the District’s commitment to providing engaging learning opportunities that help students maintain academic growth, prevent summer learning loss and prepare for success in the classroom.
