The Martin County School District's new Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) program at Martin County High School is already making an impact, providing students with hands-on experiences, industry certifications, and a direct pathway into healthcare careers.

Introduced during the 2025-2026 school year, the EMR program combines classroom instruction with real-world learning opportunities, allowing students to build the knowledge and skills needed to respond in emergency situations while exploring careers in emergency medical services and public safety.

A highlight of the program is its partnership with Martin County Fire Rescue, which gives students the opportunity to participate in clinical ride-alongs and observe emergency response, patient care, and daily station operations alongside professional first responders. These experiences help students connect classroom learning to real-life situations while gaining a deeper understanding of the teamwork, professionalism, and responsibility required in the field.

The program's first year has already produced impressive results. Fourteen Martin County High School seniors earned their Emergency Medical Responder certification before graduation, helping launch future careers in healthcare and emergency response. The program also achieved a 53.85% certification pass rate—more than double the Florida statewide average of 22.53%.

The Emergency Medical Responder program reflects the Martin County School District's commitment to providing innovative Career and Technical Education opportunities that prepare students for success long before they receive their diplomas. By combining rigorous instruction with authentic workplace experiences, students graduate with valuable credentials, real-world experience, and a competitive advantage as they pursue college, technical training, military service, or careers in high-demand fields.
