Hundreds of students and families gathered at Stuart Middle School for the Martin County School District's first annual Back-to-School Community Celebration on Aug. 1, giving families an opportunity to prepare for the first day of school while connecting with schools and community partners.
Families received free backpacks and school supplies, enjoyed lunch and music from Jensen Beach High School Teacher/DJ Mr. Jay Hall and Stuart Middle School’s jazz band, took advantage of free haircuts, and visited dozens of community resource booths. The event also gave families the chance to meet principals, teachers, and District staff before the first day of class on Aug. 10.
The celebration grew from student feedback about creating more opportunities to connect with their schools and the community before the new year begins. By bringing District departments and local organizations together in one place, families were able to ask questions, learn about available resources, and meet many of the people who will support their students throughout the year. The event embodied the Martin Means More commitment to building meaningful connections that help students thrive both in and out of the classroom.
