Martin County School District students joined first responders, families and community members for the annual 9/11 Memorial Bridge Walk, coming together to remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
Hundreds of students from across the District walked alongside members of Martin County Fire Rescue, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Police Athletic League, continuing a community tradition of remembrance.
For some students, the walk held a personal meaning, with family connections to first responders or loved ones lost on 9/11. For others, it was an opportunity to learn, reflect, and pay their respects.
Superintendent Michael Maine said experiences like the bridge walk will help students make an emotional connection to history that goes beyond the textbook.
