The Martin County School District is celebrating the joy of reading, big dreams, and the lasting impact of Dolly Parton on children and literacy as it recognizes Sept. 25, 2026, as Dolly Parton Day.
The Martin County School Board officially proclaimed the day during its Sept. 15 meeting, recognizing Parton’s contributions to literacy and the impact of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Locally, The Library Foundation of Martin County partners with the Imagination Library to provide free books to children from birth to age 5, helping families build home libraries and develop early literacy skills. The Children’s Services Council of Martin County supports initiatives that promote literacy and school readiness, helping expand opportunities for local children and families. The proclamation recognizes the collaborative efforts of both organizations and the District to inspire a lifelong love of reading in Martin County.
To celebrate, Superintendent Michael Maine shared a special reading of Parton’s Coat of Many Colors. Students, staff, and families are also encouraged to read for at least 30 minutes and celebrate in true Dolly fashion.
From building home libraries to inspiring a lifelong love of reading, Dolly Parton Day is another way Martin Means More for our youngest readers.
