Ms. Kristin Guillen, a reading intervention teacher at Port Salerno Elementary School, has been named the Martin County School District's (MCSD) 2021-2022 Literacy Teacher of the Year.

The Florida Literacy Association's K-12 Literacy Teacher of the Year Award is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions in the teaching of reading and literacy.  Ms. Guillen was selected as the District's award winner for her contributions to student growth, achievement and the overall learning environment at Port Salerno Elementary.

"On behalf of our School Board and entire Martin County School District learning community, I am proud to recognize Ms. Guillen as our 2021 Literacy Teacher of the Year," Superintendent John D. Millay shared.  "Ms. Guillen is dedicated to our mission of educating all students for success and committed to ensuring all students grow in their love of reading."

Ms. Guillen's name and nomination packet will be submitted to the Florida Literacy Association for consideration in the statewide competition.  The statewide winner will be announced in early November.
