Greetings, Martin County School District Families –

As you are likely aware, pandemic-related labor shortages are impacting many organizations and industries throughout our state and nation, and the Martin County School District is no exception to this problem.  On October 15, the District faced an unfortunate scenario that staff has worked extremely hard to avoid – there were not enough bus operators available to cover all routes according to the established schedule.  As a result, five bus routes were impacted– affected families were notified that their child’s bus would be late picking them up or dropping them off as the Transportation Department developed temporary solutions to address the issue.  While this is not a situation we hope to repeat, the reality is that staffing challenges are ongoing across various job classifications.  We are actively recruiting school bus operators, assistants, food service workers, paraprofessionals, maintenance/trades workers, teachers and more, but the candidate pool is very small. Many other school districts are attempting to hire for the very same positions.

Families, please be assured that the safety and education of our students remain the top priorities of the Martin County School District.  Please know that if challenges related to staffing will impact any of our services, procedures or processes in the future, we are committed to notifying parents/caregivers and identifying meaningful solutions in a timely, transparent and comprehensive manner.  Buses may run late and menu items may change from time to time, but our commitment to educating all students for success and serving our families with care will never waver.  If you or anyone you know might be interested in employment with our School District, please reach out/encourage them to reach out to our Human Resources Department.  Our current employment opportunities are available on our website at www.martinschools.org and recruiters stand ready to assist prospective employees with finding the perfect career fit.

When it comes to your child’s learning experience, we know that you have many options and rightfully expect the very best for them.  We thank you for choosing to partner with the Martin County School District for your child’s education.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s school or the School District Office with any questions you may have.
