The Martin County School District hosted its 46th annual Music in Our Schools program on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m. The event, which was held in the gymnasium at Martin County High School, featured performances by elementary, middle, and high school music students. The program coincided with the National Association for Music Educationโs (NAfME) Music In Our Schools Monthยฎ.
The Districtโs 12 elementary schools performed as one choir during the event, while the bands and choruses from each middle and high school performed individual selections. This yearโs NAfMEโs theme is โMusic, the Sound of my Heart.โ
โMusic in Our Schools is a time-honored event, as it demonstrates the Districtโs commitment to educating all students for success,โ said Dr. Tracey Miller, Assistant Superintendent for Academics. โWe understand the importance of ensuring our programs and offerings meet the unique needs and interests of each of our students. This event is a highly-anticipated annual opportunity for our renowned performing and musical arts programs to shine.โ
Retired school administrator and music educator Joseph Flanagan served as the eventโs master of ceremonies. He has been involved with Music in Our Schools since 1988 when he was the band director at South Fork High School.
