Harris with grad

Teacher Appreciation Week is always a special time for a teacher, and Trish Harris is thankful for the many treats she has received this week from her students. One such gift came from the mother of her student, Andy, and it was actually a request.  Would she be available one afternoon to take a picture with her son?

This is a common activity for a teacher, especially a kindergarten teacher, but this was a sentimental surprise: Andy was a kindergarten student of Ms. Harris in 2002-03 and the picture was taken in the  University of Central Florida graduation robe he had just earned. Twenty years later, Andy wanted to share his success with the person who was there when it started.

According to Mary Harding, Andy's mother, "I can’t thank enough those who helped him get to this point."

"It's always wonderful to be remembered, but it was a true honor to help Andy celebrate his accomplishment," said Ms. Harris.

The celebration of former students will continue later this month when former Diamondbacks who are now high school seniors visit Citrus Grove for a Hall Walk parade.
