Certification Application Process for New and Returning Teachers

All first-time Florida educators must send their official college transcripts to the Florida Dept. of Education. Transcripts must be mailed to the FLDOE, unless sent electronically through FASTER or SPEEDE. Allow the FLDOE 30 days to process your transcripts from the time they receive them.

If you have a degree from another country, it must be evaluated by an accredited organization to determine its US equivalency, and then the official evaluation should be mailed to the FLDOE.

New Florida Educators

  1. Have a bachelor's degree in any subject. Click here to view the exception to this requirement.

  2. Pass a subject area exam; if your degree major is in one of these subjects, then skip to step 3.

  3. Create an account with the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) (instructions).

  4. Complete an online Application for Educator Certificate.

    • If you have a valid certificate from another state, attach it to this online application.

  5. Pay the fee online ($75 per subject).

  6. Mail all your official college transcripts to the FLDOE. If you have a degree from another country, mail your official evaluation to the FLDOE.

Once you have completed the steps listed above, you may apply for a position with the Martin County School District.

Note: Florida has reciprocity with all states for certification, but the FLDOE will determine what certificate you are eligible for based on the type of certificate and the subject areas you hold in another state.

Educators with an expired Temporary Certificate

You must wait one year before submitting an application for a new certificate.

You may continue working on the requirements listed on your Statement of Eligibility (SOE) if the SOE is still valid.

  1. Login to your account with the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE).

    • If you have not logged in since 2017, you will need to create an account (instructions).

    • Do NOT create a duplicate account. For technical assistance, contact flcertify@fldoe.org.

  2. Complete an online application for Educator Certificate.

    • If you have a valid certificate from another state, attach it to your online application.

  3. Pay the fee online ($75 per subject).

  4. If you have completed another degree or college coursework since you were last certified, mail your official college transcript to the FLDOE, otherwise you do not need to mail your transcripts again.

Educators with an expired Professional Certificate

  1. Login to your account with the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE).

    • If you have not logged in since 2017, you will need to create an account (instructions).

    • Do NOT create a duplicate account. For technical assistance, contact flcertify@fldoe.org.

  2. Complete an online application for Educator Certificate.

    • If your Florida Professional Certificate expired within the past year, contact the FLDOE to update your status for you to be able to submit an application.

    • You may apply for Reinstatement of your certificate. Click the button to learn about this option and determine which option is best for you.

    • If you have a valid certificate from another state, attach it to your Re-application.

  3. Pay the fee online ($75 per subject).

  4. If you have completed another degree since you were last certified, mail your official college transcript to the FLDOE, otherwise you do not need to mail your transcripts again.
