MMS students win local VFW 23-24 Patriots Pens Contest

Three Murray Middle School students took home the top three prizes in the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) 2023-2024 Patriot's Pen Contest.

Annually, more than 100,000 students from grades 6-8 enter to win money for college, as well as an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the National first-place winner.

Students draft a 300-400 word essay expressing their views based on a patriotic annual theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief.

This year's theme was "How are you inspired by America?"

Order of finish:

  • 1st - Luke Moore, 7th grade
  • 2nd - Dylan Crago, 7th grade
  • 3rd - Riley Ornelas, 6th grade

The students' essays will be submitted to the national level.

Thank you to their sponsor teacher, Ms. Natalie Williams.
