MCSD Kindergarten Readiness

The Martin County School District is proud to share that its currently tied for the fourth-highest kindergarten readiness scores in Florida, according to recently released results by the Florida Department of Education.

These results highlight the strong performance of Martin County kindergartners and underscore the District’s commitment to early learning. Martin County School District students exceeded the statewide readiness average of 44% and improved from 48% in 2024 to 52% in 2025, placing the District among the highest-performing in the state.

State law requires all kindergartners to complete a readiness screening within the first 30 days of school. The FAST Star Early Literacy assessment serves as the statewide measure, ensuring students begin Kindergarten with the foundational skills needed for success.

While the assessment is administered in Kindergarten, the results reflect the strong foundation students bring with them into the classroom. High-quality Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) programs play a vital role in developing early literacy and learning skills, which are further strengthened through intentional instruction in District Kindergarten classrooms.

“Kindergarten is an important milestone, and these results show our students are starting strong,” said Superintendent Michael Maine. “This success reflects the dedication of our educators and the foundation built through our early learning programs.”

These results clearly demonstrate the value of a Martin County School District education, starting with our youngest learners.

Enrollment is open for VPK and Kindergarten for the 2026–2027 school year! Families are invited to attend the Kindergarten Kick-Off on February 4th to learn more about school programs, meet teachers, and prepare their children for a successful start to school.
