🍁THANKSGIVING BREAK UPDATE🍁 The Martin County School District would like to formally announce students and teachers will have Nov. 20-24 off for Thanksgiving Break. As noted in the Instructional Calendar, Nov. 20 and 21 were designated as emergency makeup days to ensure our students would receive the instruction in the event the District had to close schools due to storms or other unforeseen emergencies. The District has had no such situation creating a need to make up instructional time; therefore, those two days are included in Thanksgiving Break for students and teachers. The Martin County School Board approved the 2023-2024 School Calendar during its meeting on Nov. 22, 2022. To view the calendar, click here: https://www.martinschools.org/page/calendars #ALLINMartin👊

Congratulations to Mrs. Gorton for winning MCSD High School Teacher of the Year! Ms. Gorton has been an educator at South Fork High School for five years. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Mathematics from the State University of New York at Potsdam and prides herself as a leader with strong organizational and prioritization skills with expertise in teaching math at all levels. Ms. Gorton is an esteemed educator in South Fork High School’s International Baccalaureate program. When she’s not educating her students to excel in and have a passion for mathematics, she is coaching Girls’ Cross Country and Track and leads the Student Government Association and Leadership. In her role as the Student Government Advisor, she assisted in achieving the title of the largest contributor to the Thanksgiving Basket Drive for four years and contributed thousands of dollars to local communities. Most recently, Ms. Gorton and her students championed a project to create a viable thrift store on campus, working towards a sustainable option to recycle South Fork spirit gear. "We are truly privileged to have such a remarkable educator at South Fork High School,” Interim Principal Jaime Thompson shared. “Ms. Gorton’s passion for mathematics has given students a newfound confidence in their abilities. She is also a true leader for our students, enabling positive change not only in the school but throughout the community.”

🎃🐾SPOOKY BULLDOG SPIRIT🐾🎃 The South Fork High School Trunk-or-Treat was a spooktacular success! Students worked hard on their meticulously decorated car trunks and everyone came out in creative costumes. It was a ghostly good time! What made this event even more exceptional was that it went beyond candy and costumes. South Fork High School used this opportunity to give back to the community by supporting Hannah's Home of South Florida. Shoutout to Emma Stewart, the SFHS Junior Class of 2025 President, who came up with this idea to host a trunk-or-treat that fundraises, gets students involved, and brings members of our community together! #ALLINMartin👊 #PublicSchoolProud #MCSDBetterTogether💫

📆HURRICANE MAKEUP DAYS📆 Reminder for families: Hurricane season doesn't officially end until Nov. 30. As we near the end of the season, we want to remind Martin County families of the scheduled Emergency Makeup Days built into the 2023-2024 School Calendar. We are also nearing the first set up Emergency Makeup Days on our Instructional Calendar, which precedes Thanksgiving Break (Nov. 20-21). These days may be used to make up instructional time in the event we need to close for one or more storms. IF we do NOT experience any emergency situations or storms requiring us to use one or more of these Emergency Makeup Days, those two days will be added to Thanksgiving Break, giving students the week away from school (Nov. 20-24). At this time, that appears to be the case. If we experience conditions that would necessitate making up one or more school days, we will provide notice of the appropriate date(s) to families and employees as soon as possible. The Martin County School Board approved the 2023-2024 School Calendar during its meeting on Nov. 22, 2022.
