Anderson was an educational pioneer in Martin County, having served as a School Board Member and in various leadership roles at IRSC - Indian River State College for more than 30 years. In 2006, he was honored as the namesake of the Martin County School District's newest middle school - Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School. T-7 days until our kindergarten orientation events, where families with rising kindergartners learn everything they need to be prepared for August! During the events, families will tour their child's zoned elementary school, meet the principal and leadership team, visit a kindergarten classroom, learn how to prepare their child for success in kindergarten and enroll their child in our high-performing school district. 🐝ICYMI: STELLAR SPELLERS SHINE🐝 The Martin County School District recently held the 57th Annual Lillian A. Dassori Elementary Spelling Bee at Jensen Beach High School. Students from all twelve of the District's elementary schools participated in seven rounds of competition, tackling tough words such as '"aardvark," "anathema," and "celestial." The winner of the Bee, Olivia Priddy from SeaWind Elementary - Hobe Sound, FL, nailed the winning word, "eschew." 🚨LAW ENFORCEMENT ALERT FOR FAMILIES🚨 The Martin County Sheriff's Office is actively enforcing laws about the operation of unregistered golf carts in our community, particularly near school campuses. Golf carts are only permitted on roads with a maximum 35 mph speed limit, and that’s only if they are titled, registered, insured and have all the appropriate safety measures to make them street legal. 🍎HONORING AN OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR🍎 New year, new title! Ms. Nikki Zech of Bessey Creek Elementary School has been named the 2022 Literacy Teacher of the Year for the Martin County School District! The Florida Literacy Association - FLA's K-12 Literacy Teacher of the Year Award is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions in the teaching of reading and literacy. Ms. Zech was selected as the District's award winner for her contributions to helping new and veteran teachers with curriculum, and ensuring every K-2 student has the opportunity to grow in literacy and every 3rd-grade student becomes a proficient reader.
