**Curriculum Night** Please join us September 1st from 5:30 - 7:30 for Middle School Curriculum Night! Here are some helpful hints to streamline your experience: Parents may come at any time during the 5:30-7:30 window and visit teachers at their presentation times in an order that works best for them. Parents should: Log into the FOCUS Parent Portal and click Class Schedule prior to arriving at HOMS and either print or take a screenshot of your child’s schedule with room numbers Prioritize teachers you would like to visit (you do not need to visit all teachers or follow a prescribed schedule if you don’t wish to do so) Plan to visit the teachers of your choosing in any sequence Some teachers with unique classes in their schedule will notify students about the specific times of those presentations. If a classroom becomes crowded, the teacher may close the session to ensure safe numbers. However, with multiple session times offered, each parent should be able to visit every teacher they wish to see (Individual appointments are also always available afterward. Any parent who is unable to visit a teacher during curriculum night, can contact our guidance office to schedule a time for a later date.) Presentations will be 15 minutes each, with 5 minutes for transition between each. Presentation times: 5:30; 5:50; 6:10; 6:30; 6:50; 7:10 If for some reason a parent has trouble locating the schedule/room numbers in FOCUS, or if a parent gets turned around on campus, staff will be on hand to help. It is our hope that by offering a flexible schedule that allows for parent choice, we will more closely meet the needs of each parent and make the experience positive.

FOCUS Updates
HOMS: ** Shark Expectations Update** We are off to a great start and we want to make sure that we continue to make our kids’ experiences positive, fair, and safe for the remainder of the year. In order to accomplish this we will be embarking on a few initiatives that include building a “single school culture.” Single school culture means making sure that in this (school) house we all follow the same rules. In fostering the spirit of consistency for all, we will be teaching and reteaching our expectations around dress code, ID Badges, and the Martin County Code of Student Conduct. For example, if a student is without an ID or is tardy a teacher will inform or remind them of the expectations and then send home an infraction note to inform parents. Our intent is to foster consistent adherence to our expectations and to foster more consistent conversations with parents so that you can ask any questions you might have in an effort to work with us in partnership. Students will be assigned consequences after the third reminder/infraction. In short, it will look like: 1st warning- verbal/parent notification; 2nd warning - verbal/parent notification; 3rd warning - verbal/parent notification; 4th assigned a consequence. Please reach out to us or join us for School Advisory Council on Sept. 14th at 5pm if you have any questions.

Healthy Routines
**Welcome Back Message from Dr. Jones** This year marks a big anniversary for our school. Hidden Oaks opened in the 1992-93 school year and our community has been trusting us with your children each year since then. This year we will be commemorating our 30th anniversary by focusing on gratitude to our community. We will be working within our school to strengthen our ties to one another and we will be working outside the walls of our school to say thank you to our Palm City and Martin County neighbors by committing to giving back through acts of service. Stay tuned for more information coming on our 30 acts of service for 30 years or 30 for 30 initiative in the weeks and months ahead. As you all know school is starting in the morning and I wanted to share a couple of helpful hints to get the day off to a positive start. All students will report to the gym first thing in the morning unless they are planning to eat breakfast in which case they may report to the café. This will afford our kids an air conditioned space to wait for first period, and it will help us make sure that all kids have an adult to ask for support as they start the school year. We do expect some delays in carline the first few days of school as new-to-hidden oaks families get used to our routines. If all parents can please remember to pull all the way forward in carline before letting your child out it will make the experience better for everyone-- and help us get through the back to school bumps more quickly. All students should come to school with emergency contact information in their backpack as well as their bus number if they use district transportation. This is especially important after a tiring first day of school when kids tend to forget which bus they need to board to get home. Your child will come home with a packet of papers and forms that need to be updated annually. Please look for these items tomorrow afternoon and send them back to school completed as soon as possible. We will have printed schedules available for students tomorrow morning, but we recommend that our students bring a printed or handwritten copy of their schedule with them to school to save a step on their busy and often very social first morning. We will continue our plan to provide new badges to all students this year. Students will be expected to wear their badge and lanyard each day. Any students who still have their badges from last year should wear them to school until the new badges are printed. It will likely take us a few days to get through the badging process so no students will receive a consequence for not having a badge until the process is complete. If you have any concerns or needs, please feel free to call our office. Our guidance staff has been working diligently to help address all issues this week and will be happy to help answer any questions. Mrs. Bradley is available for students whose last names fall between A and F, Mrs. Romano is available for students whose last names fall between G and M, and Ms. O’Connor is available for N-z. We are ready for another year of learning, working, and growing together and we can’t wait to welcome our sharks back to school tomorrow morning.

**7th Grade TDAP** Due to a glitch in the system all 7th grade parents received a message on Friday afternoon from our district office requesting updated immunization records. If you already submitted yours, feel free to ignore the message. Our school site sent a message this morning to parents from whom we are still awaiting forms. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

📚 #BACKTOSCHOOL COUNTDOWN📚 Due to the expiration of a federal waiver, the District will no longer be able to offer free meals to all students this school year. Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced-price meal benefits on our website or via a paper form available from their child's school. Students attending the following schools will continue to receive free breakfasts and lunches with no income restrictions: J. D. Parker School Of Technology, The Pinewood Elementary, Port Salerno Elementary School, Warfield Elementary School, Indiantown Middle School, Willoughby Learning Center and Spectrum Academy. For the schools not listed above, MCSD will cover the costs of meals for all students for the first three days of school (August 10-12). After August 12, the regular price for breakfast for K-5 and 6-12 students is $1.50. Lunch for K-5 is $1.85, and 6-12 is $2.10. The District will cover the cost of meals for students who apply and qualify for reduced-price meals.
