MCSD Transition Fair 2025

Welcome to another edition of "Elevate Eagles with Evening Reading" I pulled the below from a great website worldreader.org. The below was posted online January 17, 2025.

Why Being a Reading Role Model Matters
Children are natural imitators. When they see you engaging with books, they’re more likely to want to do the same. Here’s how your actions make an impact:

Creates Positive Associations: When your child sees you reading for enjoyment, they’ll associate books with fun and relaxation.
Sets Expectations: Your behavior communicates that reading is a normal and important activity—something worth prioritizing.
Builds Confidence: By modeling reading, you show your child that it’s okay to explore new stories, make mistakes, and learn at their own pace.

The next post will give you simple ways to be a reading role model. Stay tuned! That and much more to come!

📚🏫100 YEARS OF HISTORY🏫📚

This past weekend, Hobe Sound Elementary School students joined School Board Member Jennifer Russell, Principal Trisha Elliott, and community members to mark the 100th anniversary of the historic Apollo School site by sealing a time capsule.

What's inside the capsule? Letters and items from 4th-grade HSE students, detailing what learning looks like now in 2025, like current technology, stuffed animal keychains, and even ramen noodles!

Fifty years from now, future generations will open these memories and see how education has evolved—reminding us that excellence never goes out of style in our A-rated, unstoppable District.

📢 Students who read, succeed. 🚀🌟
Parents, we value your time and know the challenges of raising children in this day and age. There are a lot of activities, duties and distractions competing for your time and your child's time. In an effort to help support your child showing growth in both the love of reading and their reading skills, HSE will be posting a series of statistics, suggestions and thoughts on the power of reading, the impact of independently sustained reading and how you can help your child at home. 📈

You likely know how important independant reading is to your child, but did you know that a student who reads 20 minutes per day will be exposed to 1.8 million words per year and will likely score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests. A student who reads 5 minutes meets 282,000 words per year and scores int eh 50th percentile and one minute a year only exposes 8000 words and are proven to test in the 10th percentile?" That is a powerful statistic!(according to Naggy, Anderson and Herman)

We thank you for your partnership in this journey which is focusing on this most important job of raising a successful child and student.

🧪✨ Science was bubbling in 4th grade this week!

In Ms. Hasting’s lab, students became potion makers as they explored “mystery solutions” and “mystery powders” to create exciting chemical reactions! 💥 Through this fun experiment, they learned how to explain the difference between an experiment and other types of scientific investigations (Science Standard 1.2). 🔬👩‍🔬
