The Martin County School District is proud to celebrate six schools that have been recognized as Everglades Champion Schools by the Everglades Foundation! ๐
These schools went above and beyond to bring Everglades literacy to life through hands-on learning, interdisciplinary projects, field experiences, and conservation-focused initiatives. Congrats to:
๐ฅ Hobe Sound Elementary School
๐ฅ Jensen Beach Elementary School
๐ฅ Palm City Elementary School
๐ฅ The Pinewood Elementary School
๐ฅ SeaWind Elementary School
๐ฅ Bessey Creek Elementary School
Living on Floridaโs Treasure Coast, our students have a natural connection to the resources that shape our region. Through the work of teachers, administrators, and students, these schools are strengthening that connection through meaningful, hands-on learning that stays with students long after the lesson ends.

We love seeing leadership in action! ๐ This past Friday morning during a campus-wide check, one of our newly minted Safety Patrol Captains was spotted taking a moment to check in on a fellow new Safety Patrol member ๐๐
Itโs these small but powerful moments that show what leadership is all aboutโlooking out for others, stepping up, and taking responsibility with pride ๐ซถโจ
We are beyond thrilled to see our rising 5th graders stepping into their roles with such ownership over the safety and well-being of our school community ๐ธ๐ช Our campus is in great hands!
Keep shining, future leaders! ๐๐

Eagles Read at Home!
๐ Parents, letโs talk about reading! ๐
We can all agree that students need to know how to readโand read well. One important skill we often talk about in school is fluency.
What is fluency?
According to the Raising Literacy Newsletter (Spring 2026) published by the Florida Department of Education, โFluency refers to a readerโs ability to read with accuracy, automaticity, and appropriate prosody (expression).โ
In simple terms, fluency is the bridge between recognizing words and understanding what is being read. When students can recognize words automatically, they can focus more on the meaning of the text.
Reading with fluency means:
โ
Appropriate phrasing
โ
Natural rhythm
โ
Expression that sounds like everyday speech
How can you help at home?
๐ Encourage daily reading
๐ Model reading by reading yourself
๐ Read a sentence or phrase to your child, then have them read it back to you
๐ Establish a regular reading time
๐ Provide a variety of reading materials that interest your child
Together, we can help our students become confident, fluent readers! ๐
