The 8th Annual Cardboard Boat Races took over the Martin County High School pool today—and yes, there were boats that floated… and boats that absolutely did not. 😂🌊
This year was extra fun with middle school joining for the first time!
🏆 Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School swept the speed awards in middle school and also took home Most Spirited Team!
🏆 Crystal Lake Elementary School dominated the elementary speed awards, while Bessey Creek Elementary School brought the spirit and earned Most Spirited Team!

Shoutout to our 2nd grade captains, River & Maverick, who designed and built their boats with their families. And to Ms. Angel who joyfully performed as crew along with Principal Elliott.
We loved the student support, loud cheers 📣 from classmates and families who showed up to cheer us on.

HSE's 4H Club had their final meeting recently and they spent their time improving our school. Our garden received newly planted milkweed plants and we cannot wait to meet all of the butterflies they will support. Thank you to our 4H adults who provide this opportunity for our students to strengthen their passion.

Our 4th graders dove into standard 4.R.3.3 (Compare & Contrast) through engaging, hands-on activities! 💡
Students completed three tasks, including two partner collaborations 🤝:
🔹 Created a Venn Diagram to organize similarities & differences
🔹 Tackled a sample test question by annotating text and citing page/paragraph evidence 🔍📖
🔹 Finished with an independent writing piece where they explained the similarities and differences between volcanoes 🌋 and earthquakes 🌎 in their own words
So proud of their critical thinking, teamwork, and growing confidence as readers and writers!

Mrs. Sanchez's and Ms. Hastings's 4th grade class had an exciting day combining reading and science while working on standard R3.3 (comparing information across texts)!
Students explored how mountains and volcanoes are formed by analyzing two different passages and identifying key details. They then brought their learning to life with a hands-on lab activity, modeling how tectonic plates push together to form mountains and how magma rises to create volcanoes.
Through teamwork and discussion, students made strong connections between both texts and practiced supporting their thinking with evidence. They wrapped up the lesson with a Part A/Part B exit ticket, showing their ability to infer how forces beneath Earth's surface shape our planet.
We love seeing our students think like scientists and readers at the same time! 💡👏
