Our Viking Artists celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month by creating amate bark folk art. The best part was crumpling-up the paper to emulate a textured bark-like surface to work on!

๐ŸงกBULLYING PREVENTION MONTH๐Ÿงก October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a time specially dedicated to raising awareness about and preventing childhood bullying while advocating for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Please join us next week, on Oct. 18, as we celebrate Unity Day and unite against bullying by wearing orange. The goal of Unity Day is to bring together youth, parents, educators, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that we are united against bullying! The Martin County School District promotes bullying prevention all year round and has zero tolerance for any form of bullying or harassment. Please encourage your child to speak with any teacher, administrator or other trusted adult on their campus if they are in need of support. #ALLINMartin๐Ÿ‘Š #MCSDBetterTogether๐Ÿ’ซ

๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽฎLEVELING UP LUNCH๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽ Let's get ready to level up with school lunch! Celebrate National School Lunch Week with the Martin County School District during Oct. 9-13! Our Food and Nutrition Services teams have been practicing their gaming skills and perfecting the menus for their schools. National School Lunch Week highlights the nutritious foods available daily at each school in the District. It's also a chance to bring awareness of the importance of healthy food choices at school. โ€œSchool lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,โ€ said Laura Holmedal, MCSD's Director of Food and Nutrition Services. โ€œNational School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.โ€ Read more about how the District is celebrating National School Lunch Week here: https://www.martinschools.org/article/1264008 #ALLINMartin๐Ÿ‘Š #NSLW2023 #LevelUpWithSchoolLunch

๐Ÿชด๐Ÿ› ๏ธPLANTING KNOWLEDGE๐Ÿ› ๏ธ๐Ÿชด Five Martin County School District plant operators recently ventured to the annual Florida School Plant Management Association (FSPMA) conference to grow their job knowledge and skills. Steve Miller (The Pinewood Elementary), Gilberto Calderon (Bessey Creek Elementary School), Jonathan Sequiera (Crystal Lake Elementary School), Edgardo Rivera (Jensen Beach Elementary School), and Dana Martin (SDO) attended the conference along with our Safety Manager, Mark Cocco. They learned important health and safety updates from the Florida Department of Education and engaged in learning about maintenance and proper groundskeeping. Steve Miller was lucky enough to even participate in the podcast "Beyond Clean with ACE!" We look forward to the knowledge plant operators will be sharing after the conference. Shoutout to MCSD Professional Learning Department for making this trip happen! #ALLINMartin๐Ÿ‘Š #MCSDBetterTogether๐Ÿ’ซ

As we wrap up our units on life-cycles, practices of science, and math equations, the students in Mrs. McIntyre's First grade class demonstrated all their new gained knowledge! The students used their 5-senses to describe an apple. What does an apple sound like? They used scientific vocabulary to order and describe the life-cycle of an apple. Using a math strategy of choice, the students created a mathematical story problem about apples on and off a tree. They were so creative!
