๐Ÿ–‹๏ธ Unleashing Creativity with Academic Lenses at MCHS! ๐Ÿ’ก Students in Ms. Gill's class are taking brainstorming to the next level with the Cambridge technique of Academic Lenses! ๐ŸŒŸ The posters on display showcase the process of how students generate diverse ideas by using different "lenses" to approach their writing prompts. Each fingertip represents a different perspective, encouraging students to explore multiple angles and sources of evidence. ๐Ÿค” By using these lenses, students gather a rich range of ideas to support their formal essays, ensuring they bring depth and variety to their arguments. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ This is critical thinking in action โ€“ from brainstorming to powerful essays! ๐Ÿ’ฅ #AcademicLenses #CriticalThinking #StudentCreativity #WritingSkills #Brainstorming #EssayWriting #CambridgeTechnique #MCHS #LearningInAction #PerspectivesMatter

In Ms. Manahan's AP Environmental Science class, students arenโ€™t just learning about the environmentโ€”theyโ€™re designing it! ๐Ÿ–Š๏ธ๐ŸŒฑ As part of their exploration of speciation, each group was tasked with imagining a rat that has adapted to a unique island environment. From harsh climates to scarce food sources, these future environmental scientists put their creativity and knowledge to the test to come up with innovative adaptations that would help their rats survive in challenging conditions. Each group was challenged to design a rat with at least 5 adaptations, considering factors like the islandโ€™s surface, climate, freshwater availability, and food sources. ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿ‚ Stay tuned as we dive deeper into the fascinating world of speciation and evolution! ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ’€ A Journey Back in Time: MCHS Students Explore the Black Plague ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿฆ  Ms. Southwick's class at MCHS researched one of the deadliest events in human historyโ€”the Black Plague. Students uncovered the terrifying impact of this medieval pandemic that changed the course of the world. From its sudden appearance in Europe in the 14th century to its devastating symptoms, the class learned how the plague spread, claimed millions of lives, and forever altered society. ๐Ÿ”Ž Key Insights: Introduction: The Black Plague first appeared in Europe in 1347, quickly spreading across the continent. Symptoms: Fever, chills, fatigue, and painful buboes (swollen lymph nodes), with many suffering agonizing deaths within days. Causes: Caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, transmitted by fleas on rats, which thrived in crowded, unsanitary conditions. Death Toll: An estimated 25-30 million people lost their lives in Europe alone, wiping out up to 60% of the population in some regions. ๐Ÿ’ก This study is more than just historyโ€”it's a lesson on the power of diseases and the resilience of humanity. Keep up the great work, students! #BlackPlague #HistoryInTheMaking #MCHSHistory #LearningThroughHistory #MCHS

๐Ÿ”โœจ MCHS Teachers Dive into WICOR Inquiry Strategies! โœจ๐Ÿ” Our MCHS teachers are on a mission to make learning more engaging and inquiry-driven with WICOR strategies! One powerful inquiry tool is See - Think - Wonder! ๐Ÿ’ก Here's how it works: ๐Ÿ‘€ See โ€“ Students start by observing the content and answering, "What do you see?" ๐Ÿ’ญ Think โ€“ Then, theyโ€™re asked to reflect, "What do you think is going on?" โ“ Wonder โ€“ Finally, students ask themselves, "What does this make you wonder?" This strategy encourages deep thinking, sparks curiosity, and invites students to explore new ideas with an open mind! ๐Ÿง โœจ We're excited to see how this approach will inspire our students to ask questions, engage critically, and unlock their own learning! ๐Ÿ™Œ #WICOR #InquiryLearning #ActiveThinking #EngageCuriosity #MCHSTeachers #TeachingStrategies #CriticalThinking #MCHS
