🎨CELEBRATING A LEGACY🎨 Retired Martin County School District Art Teacher Tom Prestopnik was recently honored with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Florida Art Education Association (FAEA)! For over 30 years, Mr. Prestopnik inspired countless students at Jensen Beach Elementary School, Murray Middle School, and South Fork High School, including best-selling author Tony DiTerlizzi, who attended the conference where Mr. Prestopnik received his award. 🎉🐾 South Fork High School Debate Team Shines at FCDI Southeast Tournament! 🐾🎉 On Saturday, November 9th, our talented Bulldogs made us proud at the FCDI Southeast Tournament! 🏆 👏 Bianca Bernhard took 1st place in Legislative Debate 👏 Aria Kaul took 1st place in Extemporaneous Debate We are so proud of these two outstanding sophomores for their hard work and dedication! 💖

⭐️STUDENT SERVICE SPOTLIGHT⭐️ South Fork High School senior Hollon Trent went above and beyond to give back to her community! Hollon, an International Baccalaureate student, organized a festival benefiting the The Hope Center for Autism, a school close to her heart since she began volunteering there in middle school. The event was a huge success– she scheduled food trucks, sensory activities, provided a variety of vendors, and found generous sponsors. Around 200 children and families attended, including Congressman Brian Mast. Hollon raised an impressive $12,000, with every bit of the profit going directly to the Center. From the lab to the dairy farm, our teachers deepened their knowledge of dairy herd genetics to bring real-world science back to the classroom! 🎊SFHS Teacher, Natalie Williams, honored as "Outstanding Holocaust Educator"! 🙌 🐾It was a special night as FAU's Arthur and Emalie Gutterman Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education honored Ms. Williams as one of four teachers named "Outstanding Holocaust Educator". ❤️This is the first time a Martin County teacher has been recognized for this honor in the 15 years of the program's existence! Fortunately, after a thorough review of the District’s instructional calendar, students will still meet state requirements and complete the academic year without the need to use make-up days at this time. 🌀REOPENING UPDATE🌀 **Update 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10: Schools and offices in the Martin County School District will resume operations on Monday, October 14. The majority of our campuses were fortunately spared from receiving severe damage and have been cleared for a safe return to classes. Safety remains our highest priority, and we are committed to providing a secure learning environment as repairs continue across the District. Our thoughts and prayers are with our families and neighbors as we all continue to rebuild from Hurricane Milton, and we stand ready to support our students, families, and staff in any way possible. 🌀EYE ON THE STORM🌀 ** Update 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 8: Following this evening's briefing with Martin County Emergency Management officials, the decision has been made to open four schools as shelters beginning at noon tomorrow, October 9, with the exception of the special needs shelter, which opens at 7 a.m. The shelters will remain open until Hurricane Milton has moved away from our area, at which time staff will begin restoring campuses to pre-storm conditions. As this will take us into Friday, all MCSD-operated schools will remain closed through the end of the current week. We plan to resume classes and normal operations on Monday, October 14.  The following schools will be used as shelters: -Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School--opens at 7 a.m., Oct. 9 (special needs population - residents should register here: https://www.martin.fl.us/SpecialNeeds). This shelter includes limited medical oversight and is designed for residents with electricity-dependent needs such as oxygen. -Willoughby Learning Center (residents and pets) -Port Salerno Elementary School (general population) -Warfield Elementary School (general population) Families and employees are encouraged to stay informed by visiting our website, www.martinschools.org, and social media channels for the latest updates.
