JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC)

17 - 20 February 2024

Cadets compete to attend this rigorous camp and only the most mentally and physically tough get the opportunity to participate.

The JCLC is a multi-day event that is held annually at one of several South Florida locations.  While at camp, Cadets are fully engaged in activities such as rappelling, canoeing, obstacle courses, zip lines, orienteering, drill and ceremonies, and various other team building events.  The intent is to challenge Cadets in an austere environment and to develop their leadership and communication skills.

As with every JROTC event, the emphasis will be on safety. Scheduled activities will include: Land Navigation, COPES course, rappelling, kayaking, water survival skills, and organization athletics. All meals will be provided. The Cadets will be staying in tents at night and will be provided with the necessary equipment.

National Flight Academy

08 - 15 June 2024

Cadets compete for selection to attend the National Flight Academy.

Located adjacent to the National Naval Aviation Museum, the National Flight Academy is a 102,000 sq. ft. four-story structure designed to simulate an Air Craft Carrier and is fully and intensively immersive. Cadets live for six days in this multi-story structure. The NFA’s adventure begins with our landlocked, virtual aircraft carrier, AMBITION (CVT-11). Each deck of AMBITION is designed scenically and theatrically to simulate a modern aircraft carrier. The main deck houses the galley, mess deck, administrative spaces and the aircraft hangar bays. The first deck is dedicated to academic spaces including the operations and intelligence centers.  The second and third decks house berthing (sleeping quarters), teambuilding compartments and activity rooms. The facility is designed in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Students experience theme-park style thrills surrounded by advanced technology, flight simulators and virtual reality missions that ignite imagination and encourage learning. While living aboard AMBITIONAMBITION eXperimental Pilots (AXPs) are enveloped in life as a Naval Aviator aboard a modern aircraft carrier. Missions progressively become more challenging throughout the week as the AXPs advance their aviation science skills as well as their communication skills.

Honor Flight

21 September 2024

Cadets compete to be selected as an Honor Flight Guardian.

The mission of the Honor Flight Network is to fly local WWII, Korean & Vietnam War veterans to Washington, DC to visit the memorials built to honor their service and sacrifices. Top priority is given to America's most senior heroes — survivors of World War II and veterans of any war with a terminal illness who wish to visit their memorial.

Each year, the Honor Flight Network selects one JROTC cadet from each of the local high schools to serve as Honor Flight Guardians. These Cadets receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Washington DC and serve as trained, traveling companions to an Honor Flight veteran. Some veterans would never be able to make this journey without a Guardian. The Guardian Program is designed to not only assist the veteran physically as needed, but to also learn about their veteran's service, to find out their stories, to help continue their legacy and help them feel honored for serving our country. Many pairs forge lifelong friendships, bonded by this milestone day.

Science & Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP)

The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) places high school students in Department of Navy (DoN) laboratories where they take part in real Naval research for eight weeks during the summer.

SEAP gives academically talented sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in STEM the opportunity to learn about Naval research and technology while receiving first-class mentoring by top scientists and engineers.

SEAP is a competitive program with around 300 placements in more than 38 laboratories around the country in which many participants go on to careers within the DoN. Interns are selected based upon academic achievement, personal statements, recommendations, and career and research interests.
