⚖CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN CIVIC EDUCATION⚖ Though the subject has recently increased in prominence at the local, state and national levels, the Martin County School District has traditionally prioritized and promoted Civic education. Through our many partnerships with community organizations, including the YMCA of The Treasure Coast's Florida YMCA Youth In Government (YiG) program and the Martin County Supervisor of Elections' art program, we have proudly engaged students in their civic responsibility. This evening, Superintendent John D. Millay and the Martin County School Board recognized the accomplishments of our MCSD YiG students during their State Assembly in the 2021-2022 school year. 🚄ALL ABOARD FOR SAFETY🚄 Starting Monday, October 17, Brightline will begin testing its trains at speeds up to 110mph in Martin County. 🐢CELEBRATING NEW BEGINNINGS🐢 Tuesday was a bittersweet day for the Martin County School District and the Environmental Studies Center (ESC), as Shelby - the ESC's resident loggerhead sea turtle - was released into the Atlantic Ocean. Shelby, who is now three years old, resided at the ESC since she was a three-month-old hatchling! She provided hundreds of Martin County students with first-hand knowledge of her species as she happily swam around her tank each day. 📚 MAKING AN IMPACT: RIVERBEND READS!📚 A unique and collaborative volunteer project at Riverbend Academy has allowed writers and readers to enhance the literacy and lives of students on campus. Located in Tequesta, Riverbend Academy is the District-operated educational center for students who reside at SandyPines Adolescent Residential Treatment Center. The school strives to provide students, who come from throughout Florida and our nation to receive inpatient treatment, with an exceptional educational experience that will allow them to reach their academic and behavioral goals. Wednesdays are known as "Wonderful Wednesdays" at Riverbend, with students eagerly looking forward to local authors coming to read one-on-one with them. This collaborative time helps students feel connected to and cared for by the outside world. "This is something many of them need and enjoy," paraprofessional Sheila Carpenter Perry shares.
